Hey all!

Just wanna mention a few things that i've observed for the past few practices.
Firstly, I can see lots of improvement in terms of punctuality because so far i haven caught anyone strolling in after 330 on mondays and 3 on fridays. WELL DONE so do continue coming on time. Secondly, i can see more people putting in effort to move to the music. Keep it up :D

HOWEVER, what majority of you are lacking is the respect and discipline to refrain from talking during practices. We've mentioned this so many times but its still the same for every practice. We realised that its just so hard to get your attention everytime we wanna say something. SO... please i hope your can do us a favour and co-operate with us. Make the best out of every sectionals and ensemble and stop talking cuz everytime we have to stop to get ur attention lots of precious time is wasted when we could have used it for better use. Also, when you do not have your own private conversations can we then finish ON TIME!

okay, i hope that ur keep this in mind and remind your friends if they are always talking! Remember, we are not far from our SYF! We need to be serious and WAKE UP from lala land! I BELIEVE we CAN sustain our GWH if we WORK TOGETHER AS AN ENSEMBLE! I hope the little notes that we wrote to your is motivating enough to get us through our SYF. Read them every now and then! As we strive together always keep this in mind, " Hope sees the invisible, feels the intangible and acheives the impossible"

LAst but not least, know that " you are not finished when you lose, you are finished when you quit!"

Amanda :D

Generally today practice was good but it was not really up to the standard. I'm glad to see that you all have made improvement in terms of punctuality, well it's obvious that no one wants to do simulation by herself, running around with the guitar. And in terms of expressions for the SYF pieces, a number of you are making an effort to feel the music and to move along with it. That's great, i hope you can keep it up and try to inspire your section members or whoever is next to you to do the same too. The ensemble belongs to every individual and everyone has to put in efforts to produce a good result.

What I was quite dissatisfied about today was again, your discipline. Firstly, you all were noisy constantly throughout. Secondly, you all did not take sectional time seriously and make the best out of it. I know that everyone feels tired as it's friday, we all had a hectic week of lessons and own activities, perhaps that was why you all were quite reckless and unfocused. When Mr Choo is not around, it doesn't mean that we can just slack, play whatever pieces you like and behave the way you want. I'm quite disappointed to see that you all didn't take my words seriously, it's not easy to be standing up there, trying to get all of your attention everytime after you all played some parts of a piece. I know none of you likes to be shouted at and to see my black face every practice, neither do i want to do all these, it's really unpleasant. If you want to make our practices enjoyable and fruitful, you have to play your own parts by knowing your pieces well, giving respect to others and co-operate with your SLs, the committee members and myself. Should we implement another punishment for the people who talk during the the break between the piece, by doing the simulation? I think it's quite a ridiculous idea and it will be really awkward for you all. There's time for us to have fun and to be serious, please draw the line clearly especially during practices. I was also very disappointed at some SLs today, if you are the SLs and you don't even set a good example, taking my words seriously, I am helpless. I did not have time to talk to you personally, but i really hope to see a different attitude from you next practice. If you are not even serious and disciplined, how can you expect your members to be the same? I managed to observe the band during their own sectionals today, they behaved themselves and really made use of sectional time to practise and and improve on their techniques. Why can't you all be like them? They are your fellow schoolmates, some might be your own classmates or close friends, why can't you learn something good from them? They are a big group but their discipline is excellent, there's no excuses that we can't be just as disciplined too. It all depends on you, on each one of you.

I don't enjoy scolding you all, honestly. I really hope that you can reflect on your own actions and think about what change you're gonna make, what you want to achieve for the upcoming concert/competition, what you want to achieve for SYF and what kind of memories you want to have with every member for the last few months, for 2009. "Shoot for the moon even if you miss, you'll land among the stars". I want all of you to aim for the best, demand for the best and give your very best to achieve your goal. Never let others underestimate your potential and limit the things you can do. The sec 4 and 5 seniors too, you've worked so hard to get the Gold With Honours and to reach that high standard, do not give up and waste your efforts for the past 4 years. The seniors can do it, so can we. If you all have any feedbacks for me or the committee members in any aspects, just feel free to approach the committee or myself, we'll try our best to improve and make our practices more fruitful. Okay?

Have a good rest over the weekend, but don't forget to memorise bits of your SYF pieces and file your nails! HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY TOO YEAH? thanks for all the encouraging notes. I really appreciate it=)

Maria.
