Helloooooo!

First up, announcements. Probational committee, please be at the MPR 2 by 2.45pm on Monday for a meeting. Bring along the relevant materials (proposals, your recent meeting minutes, attendance file, stationery). And I would like someone from the probational committee to take the initiative to update the CCA board and this blog as well.

At the moment, I think everyone can just go to their respective classrooms for sectionals on Monday first. Will confirm again. Anyway, if you do not really know how to play the Irish Medley or rather, you have a vague memory of the piece, go to youtube and search on it. It's exactly an ensemble version. The same applies to any new piece. Don't know the tune, youtube! Pay close attention to the part that you are playing when watching the video (well it's just the playing, so actually you listen not watch).

Next, congrats to all awardees. The leaders have counted that the ensemble has bagged 10 individual awards. We hope to see more of you excelling in leadership (part of CCA), character development or academic. :D

Anyway, it's 10 more practices before we, the sec 4s officially step down. I hope that everyone will use the remaining time to bond more, especially during the march camp. It's rare that we can come together as one big group, so like camp CORRI, you bond with your class, likewise for CCA. Apply what you've learnt in camp CORRI to the march camp even though the activities are different. Details will be given by the teachers and the probational committee.

Hah, last but not least, all the best to all the sec 4s & 5s taking MT MYE on Monday! :DD Psst, pray for us. Haha.

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND! :D

XOXO,
ANGELYN! :D

Hey,

All sec 4 committee members, please meet Mr Ng immediately after school tomorrow, at the Pebble Path of Peace Bench for about 15 minutes or so, just a short meeting. People who are involved in Achiever's Day Rehearsal, I think we are able to eat & attend the meeting at the same time (since it's so near to the canteen anyway).

2nd, all probational committee members, you are to come up with the camp proposal (just amend it will do) by next Wednesday. Committee meetings are to be held only on Wednesdays' morning (before 8.45am) or after school or whichever other suitable time you all can make it. Any questions, approach me. Oh and, check your email!

3rd, all those who did not turn up today, please produce a MC.

LOVE,
ANGELYN!

Hello!

Happy Valentine's! (:

Committee write-up should be in by 6pm today. Anyway, there isn't tutorial at MPR 2 tomorrow, but I heard that there's some training going on in there? I won't be there before 3.25pm, so leaders please check, and shift everyone else to somewhere else if necessary (can actually use level 4 classrooms since there's no CO & band uses level 3 classroom). If there are no changes, just settle down in the MPR with your guitars tuned & wait for Mr Ng to come up, as he wants to speak to all of you before practice starts.

For those of you who forgot the 2 octaves C major scale & 1 octave F major scale, please look at it again, and make sure you can play it before you come tomorrow! You MUST know these 2 basic scales. Revise both A harmonic and melodic minor scale (is there A major in grd 2?) okay whichever just revise the whole of Grade 2 scales as well.

ANGELYN!

Hi, my purpose of this entry is to talk about the committee selection again, for the benefit of those not around yesterday, & for those who are still unsure about it.

All sec 2s, 3s & 4NA are eligible for the committee selection. However, I will leave it optional for the sec4NA on whether you want to take on leadership positions. For the sec 2s & 3s, I'll make it compulsory for all of you to submit a write-up on your qualities & weaknesses, positions that you are interested in or not interested in & the reasons behind whatever statement that you make. Your write-up must be between 80 to 500 words. All write-ups are to be sent to Mr Choo's email, by Thursday 6pm. If you're unable to access the internet, go to the library. If it's still not possible, let me know asap. There will be first round of voting this Friday or next Monday. All sec 2s to 5s are to think carefully & nominate 8 names for leadership positions. Sec 1s are only required to nominate 3 names. Interviews will be conducted over the next few practices based on your write-ups & the voting results. Your probational committee should be out by 3rd of March.

The leadership positions available are President, 2 Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, Concert Master (decided to stick with Master since all of you don't like it to be manager), 2 Logistics Managers. The duties are the same as the current, except for Concert Master & Logistics Manager. The Concert Master is also the Student Conductor & the Wardrobe Mistress. As for the Logistics Manager, apart from taking care of the instruments, you are also the Librarians. Music scores are also property of the ensemble, right? The current committee will compile a list of duties by next Monday so that you all know the duties to fulfil for the various positions.

Your academic results, participation in other activities (such as 2nd CCA/council) & your behaviour will be taken into consideration. The reason why the commitee is smaller this time round as we want a higher sense of authority & leadership in the ensemble. Your next batch of leaders are exceptionally important, as you will be playing for SYF again. Hence, you need good leaders to motivate & guide the ensemble. Once you are appointed as a leader, you will be leading a whole group of people, whatever you do no longer affects just you as an individual, but everyone.

I hope all of you will treat the selection seriously & vote for people whom you think can LEAD the ensemble WELL. You need to work with them for the next 1 year. So don't live with regrets. Well, if you're worried about stress or no idea whether you can cope or not, you can talk to the sec 4s, I'm sure they'll be able to provide you with some feedback, right? =D

Hey,

All sec 2s to 5s are to leave your class at 1.15pm tomorrow
, remember to give your excuse slip to your subject teacher before you leave. Please be in full-U. Go for lunch once you get out of class, and report to the props room at 1.45pm sharp. Please remember to bring GDBBQ score.

Just remember, look-up, smile, no stoning, just play and DONE! Also remember what I said about responding and reacting to the conductor. I don't want to fan myself. (:

Committee submission write-up to be submitted by Thursday, 6pm to Mr Choo's email. If your internet is down, choose to go to the library to access, or do it on a piece of paper. If you want to understand more about job scope or whatever, approach any of the sec 4s. I'll post more about it tomorrow...

People who are SOP student helpers, please give me your names by tomorrow (for attendance taking purpose in case of any emergency).

Hi,

Today's performance was alright, but you call me demanding or whatever, it's still not the best yet. There ought to be more standard from you all. La Bamba wasn't very neat. Some went faster. The sound for La Bamba isn't that good as well as the right side of the ensemble could not be heard very well. If you haven't know, many in the audience liked 13 days in France. I'm surprised, but it may be due to the seating arrangement as each section is like spread across so the sound is more balanced as compared to La Bamba.

We have another performance next Tuesday for the Japanese school. I hope the expression part can be better. You see, if some people do it, and some of you don't, it spoils the whole image. No matter how well a person in the ensemble can play, if the rest doesn't play as well, the end result is still bad right? So the same applies in the expression, if you want to do it, then do it together. Expression shouldn't be something that people have to tell you to do, it should be natural. What is a musician without expression?

Also, I don't want anyone to stone on stage. Stone meaning staring at the score. It looks really awful. Try to look up frequently, glance at the score, look at the audience. At least you look better that way, rather than stone. Feedbacks from the audience that only some of you all look up. I'll comment more on your behaviour on Monday.

Oh please remember to bring extra cash to pay for the book, I'm not sure how much is it, but I think you all know right? Just bring at least $5 extra.

Enjoy the holidays.
Happy Lunar New Year!

Hey there,

Please be reminded that you're to bring Yellow Guitar Tee & Blue Jeans tomorrow. Wear track/school/converse shoes. You are to leave class at 8.45am sharp, and meet at the props room. Excuse slip will be given to you all tomorrow morning. Anyone not in the right attire will be barred from performing.

Listen to instructions tomorrow & be alert! I do not want to hear any talking or whispering when you're at the backstage. For La Bamba, remember to start swaying from your left to right once the melody begins. 2nd & 3rd row, please project the sound more. SMILE when you're on stage. Also, remain standing when you enter. Oh and, please listen out to the different parts, there's a slight difference in tempo for La Bamba coming from the Guitar 1s sometimes. For 13 days in france, look up, crescendo & decrescendo, and don't give the stone look. Be involved in the piece.

We are playing the same 2 pieces for next week's performance for the Japanese school. More details to be given tomorrow, but please work on your expression.

xoxooooo,
ANGELYN.

Heyo!

Sec 1s to 5s, for those paying CCA fees by Edusave, please remember to pass your forms to the teachers-in-charge. Sec 2s to 5s, please remember to bring the CNY rehearsal form back on Monday.
---------------------
Didn't had the time to comment on certain stuff. I'll do it here instead. The noise level before practice starts was terrible. I was at the other half of the MPR having lessons & I could hear all the shouting & dropping of stuff here & there. Leaders, what is my purpose for telling you all that lessons will be conducted at the other half of the MPR? When I went over, all the leaders were there, yet it was still as noisy. I hope to see leaders (whether you're a committee leader or music leader) doing something about it. I do see some leaders seated & practising, but it's not enough. Leaders need to control the ensemble. Even if Mr Choo or the teachers or even myself isn't there yet, the most basic thing is to tune up! Music leaders can start off by rehearsing scales with the ensemble! Leaders, initiative! People without tutorials, I expect to see you tuned before the tutorial girls come! You people took a total of 20 mins to get settled even though I saw 95% of the ensemble at the MPR at 3.25pm. What were you all doing then? Stop wasting time please!

If I do see this happening once more, I will not allow anyone to enter the MPR before 3.25pm. You people shall wait outside until it's time. I see no point in letting you all in the room early. Stepping in the MPR means to tune up, & get ready for CCA. I also do not want to see anyone walking under the rain with your guitar. If it's raining, go all the way down to level 2 or 1, & walk up by the music room staircase. Your guitars will spoil easily under the rain (especially if it's the school guitar, you face the consequence). Secondly, if you're drenched, I don't care how you do it, dry yourselves before you come for practice & not take out your shoes/socks!

All committee leaders, I would like to see you all after practice on Monday for a short while.

ANGELYN.
